Whitaker Farm
118 Stage Road · Barnard, Vermont

Cider, lawn games and Grandma Whitaker's strawberry pie on the farmhouse porch.

Vows in the meadow, supper in the barn and dancing till the fiddles quit.

Pancakes with syrup from the sugar house, coffee and leftover cake.

Maisie grew up on this farm. Jonah grew up in Brooklyn, fairly sure cows were mostly a rumor. It took one flat tire, two summers and a very patient horse to change his mind.
Jonah's rental died outside the farm gate. Maisie towed it with the tractor and refused his twenty dollars.
Sunday phone calls, care packages of maple fudge and the five-hour drive up I-91 most weekends.
Jonah learned to ride, badly. Biscuit decided he could stay anyway, and so did the rest of the family.
Golden hour by the old barn, a jar of wildflowers and a ring tied to Biscuit's flower crown.

Find a hay bale and grab a cold drink. Parking is in the hay field.
A short, sweet ceremony by the old maple. Biscuit brings the rings.
Local cider, cornhole and the sunniest photos of the day.
Family-style platters from the farm, and toasts from people who know us too well.
A naked cake with summer berries, and Grandma's pies lined up beside it.
A fiddle band, a caller to teach the steps, and the string lights on.
One last dance, then sparklers down the lane to the shuttles.

Phones away for the vows, please. Our photographer has it covered.

Think sundresses, linen shirts and light suits in meadow colors. The ceremony is on grass, so wedges, flats or your good boots will serve you best. Vermont evenings cool quickly: bring a layer for the dance.

Twelve, fond of apples, in charge of the rings.
Whitaker Farm is tucked into the hills above Barnard, in Vermont's Upper Valley. It's a pretty drive from almost anywhere, and the last mile is a dirt road, so take it slow.

Parking is in the hay field, with golf carts up to the barn. Rideshares are rare out here, so shuttles run from Woodstock and Barnard all evening.
A clapboard inn by the lake, with a big porch and bigger breakfasts.
Right on the green in Woodstock, an easy walk to shops and supper.
Five quiet rooms, a wood stove and the friendliest dog in Vermont.
Bring a tent, or rent a bell tent from us. Hot showers in the old milk house.
We have held rooms at these places until May 15. Mention the Whitaker and Reed wedding.

Please reply by May 1, 2027, and tell us about allergies, plus-ones and little ones.
Absolutely. There will be a kids' table, lawn games and a sitter in the farmhouse after eight.
If your invitation says “and guest”, yes. Otherwise it's just you, and we're so glad.
Grass, gravel and a barn floor: boots, wedges or flats. Leave the stilettos in the car.
The barn holds everyone, and the ceremony moves under the big doors.
A firm path runs from the parking field to the barn, and golf carts are on hand all day.
It's July in Vermont. We'll have bug spray and citronella, but bring your favorite.

Your company is plenty. If you would like to give something, we are saving for a road trip through the national parks, and there is a short list at our hardware store (we need a new fence).
